Product Review: ItWorks Relief

I researched this product on a whim. A friend posted about it, how much she loves it, and out of curiosity (being someone with Arthritis among other Chronic Pain Conditions), I started researching each ingredient... not going to put my 2 cents forward and will only give you the facts.

First Issue is the statement on the product page: Made with All Natural Ingredients.
It does have a few, but it is not an All Natural Product. Do not be fooled by marketing ploys!

(H)armful, (T)oxic, and (Q)uestionable Ingredients:

Active Ingredients
(Q - why are they using Glucosamine 2KCL?)
Glucosamine 2KCL... is the less concentrated version of the Glucosamine family. Glucosamine HCL averages a glucosamine concentration of 83%, where as 2KCL only averages a concentration around 75%, and has a higher Salt/Sodium Content than HCL.
Due to 2KCL being sourced from Shellfish and similar many can not take 2KCL. Glucosamine HCL is made from vegetables.
As well, there is much higher risk of negative side effects with 2KCL. "The shellfish source and the impurity in glucosamine sulphate 2KCL mean there is an increased risk of side effects as supplements could contain hormones or other impurities." NutritionExpert

(H) MSM (METHYLSULFONYLMETHANE) : MSM is POSSIBLY SAFE for most people when taken by mouth for 3 months or less when applied to the skin in combination with other ingredients, such as silymarin or hyaluronic acid, and tea tree oil for up to 20 days. In some people, MSM might cause nausea, diarrhea, bloating, fatigue, headache, insomnia, itching, or worsening of allergy symptoms. (WebMD)

(H) Collagen Type II is Chicken Collagen. "Collagen type II is POSSIBLY SAFE when taken by mouth in doses up to 2.5 mg daily for up to 24 weeks." WebMD
Being that the product is made from Chicken Collagen those with Poultry or Egg Allergies should not use it.
The efficacy of Collagen Type II is not proven.

Other Ingredients:
Dicalcium Phosphate: While it is not harmful, per se, we have to consider how many products we use that have this ingredient in them. Negative Effects of Dicalcium Phosphate by LIVESTRONG.COM
Croscarmellose Sodium: There are limited risks with this ingredient, but due to it's make up make sure products containing Croscarmellose Sodium stay in a sealed container/do not come in contact with moisture. "Croscarmellose sodium’s ability to expand and absorb fluids makes it an ideal vehicle for drug and supplement delivery. However, if medicines and supplements with croscarmellose sodium are left out of their containers, they will also absorb moisture from the air, states “AAPS PharmSciTech.” This could cause the drug to be released in your stomach instead of your intestines. If the drug is released prematurely, you may not absorb the correct dose." LIVESTRONG.COM
If you take a lot of products with this ingredient and notice you are starting to have intestinal blockages or the like, make sure to talk to your doctor as this is a side effect of high doses of Croscarmellose Sodium.

These are the facts.
The 3 Main Active Ingredients are low quality, and/or not safe to take long term, and/or are not proven to be effective.

There are quality, healthy, safe, and effective options out there.
Please know your ingredients.

* Something to Remember: When we are exposed to low doses of harmful ingredients repetitively it DOES negatively effect our health. This is the problem with our everyday products and why we need to be informed consumers. Companies take advantage of consumers lack of knowledge about ingredients, exposure, their effectiveness and side effects. *

Until next time folks,
Live. Laugh. Love .
